On Tuesday 30 May (5 pm CEST), three speakers will have a detailed look at Genetic Resources! In this second series of the AIPPI-ASIPI webinar “EU Legal Framework for IP Protection of Genetic Resources – Part II”, the moderator Ana Claudia Mamede Carneiro, Partner at Dannemann Siemsen, will discuss the protection of plant varieties (PV) and animal breeds (AB) together with speakers Ivana Kunda, Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Rijeka, Croatia, and a Vice-Dean for Research, and Silviya Todorova, IP Attorney (Partner at Todorov LLP) and professor at the University of National and World Economy, Sofia, Bulgaria. The topics will be discussed by means of examples and statistics for registered and licensed out plant varieties in Europe.
The speakers will examine the requirements for protection of PV and AB in EU, provide examples for technology transfer and good practices in Bulgaria and Croatia, and discuss the impact of the IP protection of Genetic Resources for the business.
About 2023 AIPPI-ASIPI webinar series
Given the growing attention to the intersection of Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources (GR), Traditional Knowledge (TK), and Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCE), AIPPI and ASIPI are pleased to announce a new series of webinars to be held in 2023, exploring these important and developing topics. This series is part of the ongoing AIPPI-ASIPI collaboration, which was signed at the 2022 AIPPI World Congress in San Francisco. The webinar series will focus on the EU perspective and the international level.
Speakers:
- Ana Claudia Mamede Carneiro, the moderator for this webinar, is Partner at Dannemann Siemsen, IP Agent and Chemical Engineer. She is a patent prosecutor and provides technical assistance in patent infringement and nullity court actions in life sciences and chemical fields. She participates of several discussions on genetic resources, traditional knowledge and benefit sharing before Brazilian and international IP and Industry Associations.
- Ivana Kunda is a Full Professor and the Head of the International and European Private Law Department at the Faculty of Law of the University of Rijeka, Croatia, and a Vice-Dean for Research. She was awarded the University of Rijeka Foundation Award for the Year 2008 and faculty of Law in Rijeka Award for Research Excellence for 2019. She received grants including the Fulbright Research Fellow scholarship in 2010 for research at the Columbia University, the GRUR scholarship in 2007, 2008 and 2014 for research at the MPI for Innovation and Competition and the IRZ scholarship in 2002 for research at the MPI for Comparative and International Private Law and the University of Hamburg.
- Silviya Todorova is Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. at the University of National and World Economy, Sofia, Bulgaria; Visiting professor at Côte d’Azur University, Nice, France. Besides Professor she is also a Partner at TODOROV LLP and IP Attorney with 13 years of experience in the field of patents, trade marks, industrial designs and plant varieties. Finally, she is also IP advisor of the Bulgarian Agricultural Academy concerning the protection and enforcement of genetic resources.
