Speakers

Markus Eustermann

Markus is a German and European Patent Attorney and works as Associate Partner at the law firm DTS Patent- und Rechtsanwälte in Munich.

With a technical background in Medical Engineering, gained during his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm and the Technical University in Munich, he is active not only in the prosecution but also the litigation in front of the courts and patent offices since his career start as a patent attorney in 2018.

Besides that, he also gives IP lectures at his Alma Mater in Ulm for Master students in Medical Engineering.

Niclas Gajeck

Niclas Gajeck is a German attorney-at-law and UPC representative at the European law firm Noerr, where he litigates complex UPC and SEP cases and advises clients on patent-, trade secret-, AI- and data-related licensing agreements. Niclas joined Noerr from the IP litigation team of a major US law firm in 2020 and has been practicing IP law in other roles, including as a researcher, since 2011.

Niclas frequently acts both as a moderator and speaker and publishes on patent litigation and IP licensing related topics. Niclas is a member of AIPPI’s Standards and Patents Standing Committee and AIPPI’s Young Member Advisory Committee to the Bureau, the Young Member Representative of the German national group of AIPPI and also an active member of German IP organization GRUR.

Jean-Baptiste Leca

Jean-Baptiste Leca works as an associate attorney at Casalonga. His practice covers all areas of intellectual property, related rights, trade secrets and unfair competition. As a result of his PhD thesis, he has developed a specific expertise in matters relating to the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. He also often advises the food, cosmetic and luxury industries. He is a regular speaker at Aix-Marseille University (France) and the University of Turin (Italy).

Rolf Lechner

Dr. Rolf Lechner is qualified European Patent Attorney and has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2019. Due to his professional experience and technical training, he has in-depth knowledge in the fields of information technology, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and medical technology. His day-to-day work at BDPE (Braun-Dullaeus Pannen Emmerling) focuses on litigation.

Rolf studied mechanical engineering at Imperial College London (MEng) and industrial engineering at Technical University of Munich (MSc).  He completed his doctorate at the Graz University of Technology (Dr. techn.) in close co-operation with BMW in the field of passive vehicle safety.

Anahita Mousavi

Anahita is a dual-qualified attorney (Germany and England&Wales) and an associate in Quinn Emanuel’s Stuttgart office. She joined the firm 3 years ago and mainly practises patent and commercial litigation with a focus on cross-border and multi-jurisdictional disputes. In 2022 she became a member of the AIPPI and since 2023 she regularly participates as a speaker at events and webinars.

Hendrik Meier

Hendrik Meier works as a research assistant at Leibniz University (Chair: Prof. Dornis, Private Law and Intellectual Property Law) and as assistant to the editors of GRUR Patent (“Patentrecht in der Praxis”). His research focusses on intellectual property law, especially patent and copyright law. The working title of his thesis is “The Scope of the Prior User Right in Patent Law”.

Carsten Plaga

Carsten Plaga is a senior associate at the boutique law firm Kather Augenstein, where he started his career as an associate in 2018. Since 2018, he has focused on patent litigation in various technical fields, in particular medical devices, consumer electronics and telecommunication SEPs. Carsten has gained extensive experience in multinational litigation.

Jonas Smeets

Jonas is a Senior Associate at Bird & Birds renowned IP and patent litigation team in Dusseldorf. Jonas is a thriving factor at Bird & Bird and is behind the success of major cases relating to AI infringement and licensing of AI portfolios. Jonas has gathered extraordinary court experience including cases up to the Federal Court of Justice in Germany and before the Unified Patent Court.
