Amendments to Plant Variety Registration Regulations

The Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan has issued amendments to the plant variety registration regulations, published on 16 July 2025, which will take effect on 16 August 2025.

Under the revised regulations, annuity payments for plant variety rights will only be accepted during January each year, replacing the previous January–April payment window. In addition, the official fees for filing, registration, publication, formal examination, and annuities have been adjusted to reflect updated administrative requirements.

Under the recent amendment, registration is now permitted for all plant varieties with the exception of species and varieties whose production and distribution are prohibited in accordance with the applicable regulations in the Kingdom of Jordan.

Applicants and rights holders are advised to plan annuity payments accordingly and take the revised fees into account when filing or renewing plant variety rights in Jordan.
