On the sidelines of the 66th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America signed a Joint Statement of Intent to enhance bilateral cooperation on patent examination.

The agreement, concluded between the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), introduces a framework for recognizing positive examination results issued by the USPTO for corresponding Emirati patent applications to fast-track patent grants. This initiative will be implemented in line with applicable UAE laws to streamline and expedite patent grant procedures.

The program aims to support inventors and entrepreneurs with timely protection of their innovations, promote an innovation-driven environment, and enhance the UAE’s position as a regional hub for intellectual property rights protection.

This step aligns with broader efforts to modernize the industrial property system, simplify procedures, and provide efficient protection and enforcement for innovators in the UAE.
