Trademark Office Temporarily Suspends Operations Following Administrative Transfer
22 Aug 2025 | Newsletter
The Libyan Council of Ministers has issued a decision transferring the authority of the Trademark Office to the Commercial Registry, resulting in the temporary suspension of trademark application filings.
Although the Trademark Office remains under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, no amendments to existing regulations have been announced. However, the administrative transition requires time and coordination, and new trademark filings are currently not being accepted.
Applications that fall due during this suspension will not be considered lapsed. They will be automatically transferred and processed once the system is operational again, regardless of any deadlines that may technically have passed.
The duration of the transition remains uncertain, though it is anticipated to take a few weeks.
