2026 AIPPI China‑Japan‑Korea Trilateral Meeting Successfully Held in Guilin, China

From 12 to 14 June, the 2026 AIPPI Trilateral Meeting among the Chinese Group, Japanese Group, and Korean Group was successfully held in Guilin, Guangxi, China, which is well-known for its stunning landscapes, especially four distinctive features: green hills, clear waters, fantastic caves, and spectacular rocks. This year’s meeting attracted over 170 professionals from 15 countries, setting new records in both the number of participating nations and overall attendance. The presidents of the three national groups Mr. Chuanhong Long, Mr. Yuzuru Okabe, Mr. Seong Tahk Ahn and AIPPI bureau members Ms. Lorenza Ferrari Hofer, Mr. Ralph Nack, Ms. Regina Quek, Mr. Guillaume Henry, and Assistant General Reporter Mr. Yanfeng Xiong, took part in the event.

Since 2000, the AIPPI national groups of China, Japan, and Korea have taken turns hosting the Trilateral Meeting, with the aim of fostering IP cooperation in the region and supporting economic, trade, and cultural exchanges. In recent years, the meeting has increasingly engaged innovators and creators, offering a more multidimensional perspective on IP development and its role in high‑quality economic growth—covering areas such as industry trends, supply‑chain integration, global IP portfolio strategy, and the relationship between emerging industries and IP.

At the opening ceremony, the presidents of the three national groups, along with AIPPI President Ms. Lorenza Ferrari Hofer, delivered remarks. Ms. Ferrari Hofer extended her congratulations on the successful convening of the Trilateral Meeting and expressed her special thanks to the Chinese Group for its diligent hosting. She called on IP professionals worldwide to make full use of AIPPI’s international platform, enhance experience‑sharing and practical collaboration, and collectively contribute to the steady advancement of the global IP community.

In the keynote session, Judge Fei Xu from the IP Court of the Supreme People’s Court of China, presented the achievements and latest developments of China’s national‑level appellate mechanism for IP cases over its seven years of operation. Mr. Su Fan, Head of Litigation and Licensing at Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), then spoke from the corporate perspective, highlighting the role of IP in supporting the company’s market expansion and global footprint during its technological innovation journey.

The thematic sessions featured in‑depth discussions and presentations on a range of topics, including AI and IP, overseas IP filing and portfolio management, divisional patent applications and double‑patenting, as well as recent IP developments in China, Japan, and Korea.

Looking ahead, the Trilateral Meeting will continue to uphold the principles of openness, cooperation, and mutual benefit. Efforts will be made to further enhance the quality of the event and its outreach, broaden and deepen the scope of topics, encourage greater participation from innovators and creators, and attract IP professionals from more countries and regions—thereby contributing regional insights and strength to the ongoing improvement of the global IP governance system.
