My First AIPPI Experience: AIPPI Reach Out Series & IV Congress of the AIPPI Central America and the Caribbean Group in Santo Domingo, on 2 and 3 July 2026

Attending the AIPPI Reach Out Series & IV Congress of the AIPPI Central America and the Caribbean Group  in Santo Domingo was a particularly meaningful milestone in my professional career. Although I have been practicing intellectual property law for many years and have been actively involved in several international organizations, this was my first AIPPI event. It exceeded every expectation.

Our firm, Augusto Perera, P.A., was proud to participate not only as an attendee but also as one of the event’s sponsors. Supporting the Congress reflected our commitment to the international intellectual property community and our belief that collaboration across jurisdictions is essential in today’s global economy.

From the opening activities through the closing sessions, the Congress offered an outstanding combination of educational programming and networking opportunities. The presentations covered a wide range of timely issues affecting intellectual property practitioners, including artificial intelligence, online enforcement, well-known trademarks, compulsory licensing, and the growing relationship between sports and intellectual property. The quality of the speakers and the practical nature of the discussions made every session valuable.

Equally important were the opportunities to connect with colleagues from across Central America, the Caribbean, and beyond. Throughout the conference, whether during the welcome activities, the sponsors’ dinner, coffee breaks, or social events, conversations naturally evolved into discussions about common professional challenges, best practices, and opportunities for future collaboration. These informal interactions often proved just as valuable as the formal educational sessions.

As attorneys whose practice frequently involves cross-border trademark prosecution, enforcement, and portfolio management, trusted relationships with experienced practitioners in other jurisdictions are indispensable. Meeting colleagues face-to-face strengthens those relationships in a way that virtual communication simply cannot. The camaraderie and friendships developed during the Congress create a network of professionals who can confidently assist one another and ultimately provide better service to clients with international needs.

The sponsors’ dinner was another highlight of the Congress. It provided an opportunity to engage with fellow sponsors, organizers, and regional leaders in a relaxed setting while celebrating the continued growth of the AIPPI CA-Caribbean community. We are grateful for the warm welcome extended to us and proud to have contributed to the success of the Congress.

For me personally, this first AIPPI experience reinforced the organization’s mission of fostering cooperation among intellectual property professionals worldwide. Beyond the excellent educational content, I leave Santo Domingo with new friendships, stronger professional relationships, and a deeper appreciation for the collaborative spirit that defines AIPPI.

I look forward to participating in many future AIPPI events and continuing to contribute to this remarkable international community.
