IMPI Steps onto the International Stage: A New Authority for Patent Search and Examination

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are pleased to inform you that, during the sessions of the Assembly of the PCT Union, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) approved the designation of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) as an International Searching Authority and International Preliminary Examining Authority (ISA/IPEA).

Additionally, on 7 September 2026, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) received ISO 9001 certification, a requirement for serving as a new International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty.

Accordingly, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) may be designated as one of the Patent Offices responsible for conducting the international preliminary examination (IPEA) of patent applications, as well as carrying out the international search (ISA).

Congratulations to the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), its examiners, and the Mexican intellectual property system on this significant achievement.
