Kazakhstan Amends Several Key IP Acts

On 24 November 2025, Kazakhstan’s Head of State signed Law No. 233-VIII, introducing amendments to the Law On Trade Marks, Service Marks, Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin of Goods.

Key changes:

  • Accelerated examinations: Preliminary examination may be requested within10 working days (previously one month); full examination within three months (previously four months).
  • Extended opposition period: Opposition period has been extended to two months (previously 1 month).
  • Suspension of proceedings: Application proceedings can now be suspended when alawsuit is filed in court.
  • Adjournment of opposition hearings: Any party may request an adjournment of opposition hearings (previously only the applicant).

The amendments to the law will enter into force from 25 January 2026.
